Breaking: Ipswich Town receives personal terms boost in £6 million Blackburn Rovers deal.

Sammie Szmodics for Blackburn Rovers

Premier League newcomers Ipswich Town are discussing a possible move for Sammie Szmodics.

According to TWTD, the specialized Ipswich outlet, their team has made a number of promising recruits throughout the early stages of the summer transfer season.

Given that they have lost a number of first-team players in recent weeks, as well as the fact that they need to make the necessary signings to give themselves the best chance of remaining in the Premier League beyond the end of next season, it is not surprising that they have been active in the market.

Their first signing was Omari Hutchinson, a wide player who joined permanently from Chelsea.

Ben Johnson has also joined, and they recently signed Jacob Greaves from Hull City.

It does not appear like they will be able to complete a deal for Jaden Philogene either, but there is still plenty of time until the start of the 2024/25 season for them to make other signings.

Having targeted a couple of EFL players already this summer, it’s no shock that they are back in that market to try and get another deal over the line.

It has been reported that they are in discussions regarding a potential move for Blackburn Rovers star Szmodics, who was exceptional during the 2023/24 campaign, with his goals keeping John Eustace’s side in the Championship.

It is believed that a transaction for around £6 million, plus add-ons, is being discussed.

According to TWTD, the Tractor Boys should be able to agree on personal terms with the player without trouble.

Ipswich have long admired Szmodics, and have considered making a bid for him in recent years.

Following their promotion, they may now be in a great position to finalise a deal for the 28-year-old.

Rovers have a solid negotiation position with Szmodics.

The striker has two years left on his contract, and with Rovers having the option to extend it for another 12 months after that, £6 million does not appear to be a sufficient number.

He was such a prolific player last season that losing him for anything less than an eight-figure amount would be a bad business decision.

Rovers could spend £6 million smartly, but they should be prepared to pay much more for Szmodics’ services, especially with prospective add-ons in mind.

From Ipswich’s perspective, however, this may be a fantastic deal.

With Kieffer Moore leaving at the conclusion of his loan period and Freddie Ladapo likely leaving before the window closes, more quality and depth are absolutely required.

Ali Al-Hamadi might also profit from a loan exit, therefore the Tractor Boys should look to fix their striker department as soon as possible.

Szmodics may be a terrific addition, but they may still require more firepower, even if he signs.
