swansea city, Swansea City interested in tricky deal for out-of-favour Celtic man

Swansea City are interested in new additions this summer as they try to push to the right end of the table under Luke Williams.

To far, the business has been focused on outgoings, with no new faces entering the South Wales office. Nathan Wood has been sold, while striker Jerry Yates has joined Championship rivals Derby County.

With the latter’s departure, the Swans now have only two natural strikers: Liam Cullen and Mykola Kukharevych. As a result, the signing of a new talisman is required.

Swansea City are reportedly interested in Celtic’s Oh Hyeon-gyu. Korean reporter Joel Kim, writing for X, initially reported the club’s admiration for the 23-year-old.

Ian Mitchelmore of BBC Sport Wales confirmed these reports, indicating that he is a person of interest. However, he noted that while Celtic want to transfer him, a deal with Swansea’might prove problematic’.

Oh still has a hefty four years left on his deal at Parkhead after joining in January 2023.

While the particular obstacles to a deal for Oh are unknown, it is reasonable to anticipate that his asking price will be relatively high, despite the fact that he has dropped down the pecking order at Celtic.

That could be the obstacle for Swansea City, even having cashed in on defender Wood.

Oh only signed a year and a half ago, with the Scottish club paying £2.5 million for his services. Celtic would expect to make a substantial profit on a talented striker who has demonstrated his ability to score in regular minutes and has four years left on his contract.

According to several sources, Belgian team KRC Genk is interested in signing the Korean striker for £3.5 million plus add-ons.

While Swansea City are yet to achieve a breakthrough in the transfer market, it appears that signings are imminent. And, based on two upcoming agreements, the club is casting a wide net this summer.

According to reports, midfielder Goncalo Franco is due to come from the Portuguese team, while Eom Ji-Sung, another Korean prodigy, is also expected to sign.

With both coming from abroad, perhaps the Welsh side is exploring outside of the home market for some good deals.

If they are to firm up their chase of Celtic man Oh though, it looks as though they’ll have to pay a sizeable fee. That may well prompt Swansea City to look elsewhere despite their interest.
