Breaking: 23-year-old Portuguese star says goodbye in social media post as Swansea City move edges closer.

Swansea City are reported to have agreed on a fee for the midfielder.

Goncalo Franco has sent a thank-you letter to supporters as his move to Swansea City appears to be imminent.

WalesOnline understands that Swansea have negotiated a deal with Portuguese side Moreirense for the midfielder, which would be viewed as a triumph for the club.

Franco is viewed as a defensive midfielder and would boost head coach Luke Williams’ options in the engine room.

Before making the move to Moreirense in 2020, for whom he’s made 100 senior appearances so far, Franco started his career at Leixoes.

His time Portugal now appears to be at an end, with the 23-year-old saying his farewells on Instagram.

He wrote: “September 1, 2020, is and will forever be a date that will never be forgotten. At just 19 yrs old I signed my first professional contract at 1. La liga, the main tier of Portuguese football, where every young person dreams of playing. That’s where my story began in a club as humble and hardworking as Moreirense.

“4 years have passed and I just want to thank, without any exception, all the professionals who have lived with me and helped me grow and become who I am today.

“It’s an honor to have made history in this club. With 127 games as a professional for Moreirense, I am especially proud to have belonged to the squad that broke the record for points at 2. Aliga and in the following season we beat the club’s record for points at 1. the league.

“Now that I look back, I can see that all of my everyday efforts have been rewarded; all of the obstacles that have come my way have made me stronger and better prepared for the great battles.

“That’s what football is about: bringing wonderful people into our life and having thrilling times like today, saying goodbye. I leave the club as a player, knowing that I gave my all for this symbol. I’ll continue to root for you all. “Thank you, Francisco.”

Franco might be the second new signing in SA1, following South Korean star winger Eom Ji-sung.
