Breaking: Swansea City reaches settlement with Southampton boss over breach of contract case.

Swansea City are close to striking an agreement with Southampton manager Russell Martin following their recent disagreement over an alleged violation of contract.

The Swans filed legal action against their former manager in April, nine months after he left for St Mary’s, over the money paid for him and many other staff members.

Swansea claimed they were entitled to approximately £2 million under the rules of losing Martin to a Premier League team, while Southampton claimed they were entitled to a lower amount, insisting the approach was made after they had lost their top flight membership.

The Swans had previously collected the lower price, but they were adamant about pursuing the full sum they claimed they were owed, and saw this as a final resort after becoming frustrated with the Saints and the Premier League’s perceived lack of action.

The two parties appear to be getting close to a deal.

Crucially, WalesOnline understands that as part of the deal, the subject of compensation for his move to Southampton will be addressed.

Martin had just over a year left on his three-year deal in south Wales before he left for the English south coast, a departure that was clearly held up by the many of the legal wranglings behind the scenes.

Despite their dissatisfaction with the circumstances of his departure, the club eventually opted to let him go in an effort to move on from the saga, which threatened to linger on for the majority of the summer.

The Swans chose Michael Duff as his successor, but the Northern Irishman was fired in December and replaced by Martin’s old assistant, Luke Williams, around a month later.

Martin himself would go on to lead Southampton back to the Premier League, defeating Leeds United 1-0 in the play-off final at Wembley.
