According to the most recent Football Insider update, Joe Worrall is one of several players that Forest are looking to offload this summer. According to Nixon, the Sky Blues are interested in signing the defender on loan during current transfer window.

However, Championship rivals Sheffield United are also vying for the 27-year-old’s signature. The Blades have been highly associated with the defender for some time, with TEAMtalk stating that they have begun talks with Forest over a transfer for Worrall.

Worrall has fallen out of favour at the City Ground with the Premier League club, but it has been stated that they are hoping to fetch up to £4 million for the centre-back, thanks to increased interest in his services.

According to the source, the player is interested in joining the Blades, but this could alter now that Coventry has entered the race.

Last summer, Mark Robins made some crucial centre-back additions, including Liam Kitching, Joel Latibeaudiere, and Bobby Thomas. Luis Binks made his move permanent this summer as well.

Neil Littlewood, FLW’s Coventry fan analyst, believes his expertise would be beneficial, even if he goes against the typical recruitment model of pre-peak players in terms of age, and with plenty of depth in the centre of defence.

He said: “Joe Worrall goes against our regular recruitment approach, but I believe we need some experience because we have a young squad.

“I would not say no to his coming in. He has experience at this level. He clearly got promoted with Forest and has Premier League experience.

“I think he’d be a wonderful addition to the squad. I believe Robins like to have four centre-backs in the squad at the same time.

“And Latibeaudiere tried to deceive a little bit while he was there. I’m not sure if he is now considered right-back cover.

“To be fair, I believe Worrall is a superior player, so if he comes in, it will benefit the squad in that regard.

“I believe there is a need for experience in the squad somewhere. Whether as a goalie, centre-back, or in the heart of midfield.

“We lost Liam Kelly; Simon Moore is another seasoned player. We had Kyle McFadzean last season. All of that runs down the spine of the team.

“As brilliant as Bobby Thomas and Ben Sheaf are, they are still relatively young, so we need that extra experience on the team.

“Ideally it would be down the spine of the side, and in that respect, I think Worrall would be a clever signing.”

Worrall would be a solid but vital addition to Coventry this summer, for the reasons laid out by Littlewood. Not only does he have extensive Championship experience, but he was instrumental in Forest’s long-running stint in the EFL under Steve Cooper, which will finish in 2022.

Other intangible benefits, such as his leadership and voice in the dressing room, would be extremely valuable to the Sky Blues. They came close to promotion in 2023 and missed out on the play-offs last year, but Worrall’s presence at the club would be excellent.

Worrall will, rightly, want a side challenging the top-two in the Championship next season if he is to step back down to the second tier, but Cov. could be a good option for him if he his wish his regular football at a club that he can have a big impact on.
