Darko Gyabi: On-loan Plymouth Argyle midfielder likely to miss rest of season - BBC Sport

Darko Gyabi is supposedly on the approach of leaving Leeds United to rejoin Plymouth Argyle. The midfielder spent two and a half months with the Pilgrims last season, and according to Football Insider, the south coast side has agreed to bring him back to Home Park on a season loan.

The midfielder is desperate for minutes as he progresses and develops in the senior game, and with an agreement rumored to be in place, Leeds will be hoping the loan would help him to advance his career. Gyabi will be eager to impress after having his initial loan with Plymouth cut short due to injury.

The 20-year-old joined the Devon outfit last January and made 10 appearances for the club under Ian Foster, who could be heard singing the youngster’s praises on several occasions. However, Gyabi was forced to return to Elland Road at the end of March with a groin injury bringing his season to a premature end.

Foster was fired in April as Plymouth struggled to the foot of the table, but the club has now appointed former England international Wayne Rooney to lead them ahead in the upcoming season. Rooney has not had much success as a manager, but considering his credentials in the game, Gyabi will undoubtedly be eager to work with him as he seeks to establish himself in first-team football.

The midfielder, who joined Leeds from Manchester City in 2022 for about £5 million, still has two seasons left on his current contract and is at the bottom of Daniel Farke’s pecking order. Prior to his loan, he made only two appearances for the Whites previous season, trailing only Archie Gray, Glen Kamara, Ethan Ampadu, and Ilia Gruev.

If the deal is completed, Gyabi will follow Sonny Perkins out of Elland Road on loan, with Perkins joining League One club Leyton Orient for the season. The striker struggled to make an impression while on loan at Oxford United last season, and the agreement was cut short after only a few months.

As a result, he’ll be hoping for further opportunities in east London with the club he played for as a schoolboy before joining West Ham United.
