Done deal: Aberdeen completes signing of 27 year old goalkeeper as medicals gets completed

Mitov becomes Saints' first summer signing - BBC Sport

Dimitar Mitov, goalkeeper for St Johnstone, is having a medical at Aberdeen today ahead of his move to Pittodrie, according to Football Insider sources.

Mitov was crowned St Johnstone’s Player of the Year last season after numerous standout performances at McDiarmid Park.

Aberdeen have already activated the release clause in the Bulgaria international’s contract, as his move to the north-east of Scotland approaches.

Jimmy Thelin’s side has rushed to sign the 27-year-old, after first-choice goalkeeper Kelle Roos left the club after his contract expired.

Mitov’s contract with St Johnstone runs until May 2025, but he is now anticipated to join Aberdeen unless an unexpected late twist occurs.

Mitov joined the club on a free transfer last summer after spending six years at Cambridge United.

During his stint with the English League One club, the goalkeeper appeared 165 times and maintained 42 clean sheets.

He continued that form with St Johnstone last season, keeping nine clean sheets in 41 appearances despite the club’s troubles in the Scottish Premiership.

Mitov has made three appearances for the Bulgaria national team since receiving his first call-up last September.

The goalkeeper is close to joining Aberdeen as they attempt to replace Roos, who left Pittodrie earlier this month.

The Dutchman preserved 13 clean sheets in 52 outings, and Aberdeen finished eighth.

Along with Roos, the club has confirmed that Connor Barron, Anthony Stewart, Jonny Hayes, Kieran Ngwenya, Finlay Murray, Kai Watson, Aaron Reid, Chris Kondolo, and Reuben Smillie have all left Pittodrie when their contracts expired.

In other developments, the striker is “very keen” to finalize his Celtic move.
