Dodgers Release Veteran Utility Man After Surprising Struggles

The Los Angeles Dodgers have released a struggling veteran utility man.

On Tuesday, they released infielder Kevin Padlo from his minor league contract

Padlo, 27, has struggled in the minor leagues after an impressive spring training. In 47 games at Triple-A this season, Padlo slashed .216/.340/.380 with six home runs and 29 RBIs.

Padlo is a journeyman infielder who was drafted in the fifth round of the 2014 MLB Draft by the Colorado Rockies. He made his MLB debut in 2021, and bounced around the league, playing with the Tampa Bay Rays, Seattle Mariners, San Francisco Giants, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Los Angeles Angels.

Padlo has appeared in just 26 games at the MLB level in his career, and is slashing .111/.158/.167 with three doubles, three RBIs, and an OPS of .325.

In his Triple-A career, he’s slashing .247/.347/.451 with 60 home runs and 215 RBIs in 356 games.

While Padlo was released, outfielder Ryan Ward is now back with Triple-A Oklahoma City after spending three weeks on the injured list.
