SHOCKING: Lions General Manager Clarifies His Views On QB Contract Discussions

The Lions believed in Jared Goff, and that's all he needed to come roaring back - The Athletic

The recent announcement from General Manager Brad Holmes on quarterback Jared Goff’s potential contract extension should delight Detroit Lions supporters.

Holmes recently discussed his quarterback’s future on Detroit’s “97.1 The Ticket.”

The Lions are legitimate Super Bowl candidates because of Goff.

He became a true franchise quarterback after being traded from the eventual Super Bowl-winning Rams, where he had been an afterthought.

He has revived Detroit with his play and attitude.

The three-time Pro Bowler helped the Lions win 12 games in 2023 and make their first trip to the NFC Championship Game since 1991.

They not only earned their first-ever NFC North title but also their first postseason victory since the 1991 Divisional Round.

Goff is among the NFC’s top quarterbacks, at the very least.

In terms of passing yards (4,575), completions (407), completion percentage among starters who appeared in 15 or more games (67.3%), and touchdown passes (30), he finished second in the league.

The Lions would not be where they are now without him.

For both parties, the transfer from Los Angeles to the Motor City was worthwhile given the previous first overall pick.

The Lions are about to experience greatness, as the Rams won the Super Bowl.

The Lions should be in the running for the Super Bowl for a very long time because of the group of Pro Bowl talent that surrounds him, including tight end Sam LaPorta, running back Jahmyr Gibbs, and receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown.
