Luke Ayling, a rumored target for Birmingham City, is ‘likely’ to join with Middlesbrough, according to reports.

According to the Teesside Gazette, Ayling is “looking likely” to sign a long-term deal with Boro. Ayling’s contract with the Whites is up, so he may return to Middlesbrough. Ayling has been on loan at the Riverside Stadium from Leeds United.

After signing in January, he made 19 appearances for Middlesbrough and missed just one, which was against his parent club, Leeds. Although a transfer to Birmingham City was discussed in April, the player’s disclosure regarding his future makes that move appear unlikely.

After their last-day match against Watford, the 32-year-old told BBC Radio Tees, “I think things are close and I’m excited for what the future holds.”
