The quarterback for Alabama turned down the Patriots’ $96.2 million contract offer.

Jones was the starting quarterback in the first week following his selection with the 15th overall choice in the 2021 NFL draft. In his debut season, he ran for 3,801 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions, making the Pro Bowl. In 2022, Jones continued to be the starter; however, due to an injury, Bailey Zappe replaced Jones as the starting. Ultimately, Jones was benched in favor of Zappe in 2023, but the Patriots’ struggles continued, and as a result, they were selected third overall in the 2024 NFL draft.

Jones now has a new beginning in a location he knows well. He will be the Jaguars’ backup to Trevor Lawrence. Lawrence was chosen first overall in the NFL draft class of 2021, which included both of them.

Linebacker Rolando McClain was drafted 8th overall by the then Oakland Raiders in the 2010 NFL Draft. He played for the Raiders from 2010-2012 and the Dallas Cowboys from 2014-2018.

Cornerback-turned-safety Kareem Jackson was drafted 20th overall by the Houston Texans in the 2010 NFL Draft. He currently plays for the Denver Broncos.

Defensive tackle Marcell Dareus was drafted 3rd overall by the Buffalo Bills in the 2011 NFL Draft. He is currently a free agent and has spent time with the Bills and most recently the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Offensive lineman James Carpenter was drafted 25th overall by the Seattle Seahawks in the 2011 NFL Draft. He is currently a free agent and has seen time with the Seahawks, New York Jets and Atlanta Falcons.
