Breaking: Warriors confirm nature of Stephen Curry’s injury

An MRI showed no structural damage to Stephen Curry‘s right ankle and the injury has been diagnosed as a sprain, the Warriors announced via Twitter. He will miss games against San Antonio tonight and Monday and will be reevaluated Tuesday.

Stephen Curry to be reevaluated Tuesday after MRI shows ankle sprain

The injury occurred late in Thursday’s contest when Curry rolled the ankle while cutting to the basket. He limped to the locker room to have it checked out and didn’t return to the game.

A report on Friday indicated that Curry is expected to miss seven to 10 days, but that could be adjusted depending on the results of Tuesday’s examination.

Curry has played in 59 of Golden State’s first 62 games, and it doesn’t seem like he will fall short of the 65-game requirement to be eligible for postseason and All-NBA selections. He has been scoring an impressive average of 26.9 points per game and shooting 44.9 percent from the field and 40.7 percent from three-point range, which is above average for him.

The Warriors need every victory to close the gap on sixth-place Phoenix since they are in a fierce battle to escape the play-in tournament. Until Curry is cleared to return, Chris Paul is anticipated to assume the starting point guard role.
