This offseason, the Detroit Lions will undoubtedly be looking to add a number of cornerbacks to their roster.

Although L’Jarius Sneed, the outstanding defensive back for the Chiefs, is the center of attention for many fans, defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and the Detroit coaching staff may be interested in a previous first-round draft pick.

Sneed would demand a large contract extension, and Detroit would probably find it too expensive to add him. To get him, the team would probably have to deal draft capital.

At the Combine, buzz circulated that the Cleveland Browns were willing to deal one of their starting cornerbacks, including Greg Newsome. Newsome, 23, was selected with the 26th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He has 128 tackles and two interceptions in his career. According to USA Today’s LionsWire, “If the Lions are interested, it goes beyond simply trading a draft pick or two to the Browns to acquire the 23-year-old Newsome,” writes Jeff Risdon. “Detroit would also need to sign him to a new contract. Those salary negotiations would figure to begin at the fifth-year option value of $13.37 million as a base price per year.”

The talented defensive back is entering the fourth year of his rookie contract agreement, indicating a decision could be made this offseason regarding his future. Risdon proposed that Detroit sends the No. 73 overall pick in this year’s draft and a 2025 fourth-round selection for Newsome.Browns' surprise season crashes in playoffs, but team convinced future bright with healthy QB Watson
