Just in: Houston Texans to pay 24 year old WR $4,871,516 amid new contract deal
Nick Caserio and the Houston Texans front office have a full plate in the offseason. With over 30 impending free agents, there is plenty of work to do for the Texans, who are looking to sustain the form they established in the 2023 NFL season. While the immediate pending free agents are chief priorities for the Houston Texans, it is also not too early to ponder what should they do with wide receiver Nico Collins, who will be a free agent by the end of the 2024 NFL campaign.
To that end, Caserio seemed to give off the idea that the Texans are willing to sign Collins to an extension, though, he also implied that any negotiation with the wideout will have to wait for now.
When asked about Collins and whether he thought he could get a contract extension done with the wide receiver and his agent, Caserio seemed optimistic. Collins is represented by Drew Rosenhaus, who also represents Greenard and several other Texans players who have gotten deals done in the past. But Caserio added that the Texans likely will wait until after free agency to begin discussions about Collins.
Collins was signed by the Texans to a four-year deal worth $4.87 million back in 2021. In 2023, he was among the favorite weapons downfield of quarterback CJ Stroud, as he finished with a career-high 1,297 receiving yards and eight touchdowns on 80 receptions and 109 targets. Having established a great chemistry with Stroud, who is looking like a franchise quarterback for the Texans, Collins can be expected to be kept by Houston beyond 2024. Then again, nothing is certain until he puts ink on paper.
