Breaking: Houston Texans to land a 37 year old OLB worth $180 million.

Last season, the Houston Texans surprised everyone when they finished on top of AFC South after languishing in the bottom during the previous year. For the momentum to continue, the front office must consider signing Khalil Mack, a $180 million linebacker who offers a lot of upside for the team.

Even though there were low expectations for the Texans this season, the team went ahead and surpassed them all, thanks to C.J. Stroud’s incredible run. This marks the first time they had a winning record and qualified for the playoffs since 2019.

Leading the way was the rookie tandem of C.J. Stroud and DeMarco Ryans, the team’s quarterback and head coach, respectively. Their partnership made Houston the fifth team in NFL history to make the postseason with a first-year coach and quarterback.

The two were tested in the wild card round against the Cleveland Browns and made jaws drop when the Texans eliminated them. And even though they lost to the Baltimore Ravens in the following round, their incredible run was already recognized by many at that point.

Why Khalil Mack Makes Perfect Sense For the Houston Texans Next Season

The Los Angeles Chargers have the option to keep Mack on their roster, even though it would be detrimental to their cap space. Aaron Schatz of ESPN explains why Houston is the better fit for the linebacker next season:

“Mack, who just turned 33, had 17 sacks last season for the Chargers and he would come with a huge contract. He has a $38.5 million cap number, and the Chargers are nearly $46 million over the cap for 2024. Trading Mack before June 1 would save them over $23 million in cap space. The Texans, on the other hand, have $57 million in cap space. They also have the space to bring Mack in with starting edge rusher Jonathan Greenard hitting free agency. Imagine Mack playing opposite Will Anderson Jr., with opponents able to double-team only one of them. It probably wouldn’t cost the Texans a very high draft pick while bringing a big addition to their defense,” Schatz wrote.
