Buffalo’s Decision to Take a $118.7 Million Contract With.

Jordan Greenway - Stats, Contract, Salary & More

The Buffalo Sabres are known for their lack of toughness. Their inability to play physically is a long-standing problem, even though they do have a few players that enjoy it. Jordan Greenway, a forward, is among the players. Jordan was acquired by general manager Kevyn Adams from the Minnesota Wild during the trade deadline in exchange for a 2023 second-round pick and a 2024 fifth-round pick.

Right away, there was some familiarity as head coach Don Granato coached Greenway during their time in the United States National Team Development Program. Granato was thrilled that Greenway had joined the Sabres and he wanted Adams to acquire Jordan from the Wild.

After a not-so-impressive start to the season, Greenway has been playing some very good hockey as of late. In his last five games, Jordan has five points with three goals and two assists. During the duration of his young career, he was never viewed as a goal scorer. He is known for being a physical presence and a tough player to play against.

As I mentioned earlier in the article, physicality is something Buffalo lacks. During the last few games though, Greenway is starting to put up points. In 43 games played this year, he has nine goals and ten assists for 19 points. While he’s been producing as of late, it’s really good to see a player who plays a physical brand of hockey.

Granato has Greenway on a line with 2023 first-round pick Zach Benson to help protect the youngster in case teams try to mess with him. As a whole, Greenway is a good fit for the Sabres. He still has a couple of years remaining on his contract but I’m sure the Sabres would love to extend him as soon as possible. I do think he can help this team because of his playstyle.

On Presidents Day afternoon in 2023–2024, the Buffalo Sabres hosted the Anaheim Ducks for the opening game of Week 19. This was the Sabres’ week to attempt and bring themselves back in the race, even though their chances of making the playoffs are dwindling. Coming into Buffalo, Anaheim was looking to erase the memory of their 9-2 thumping at the hands of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Sabres notes: Jordan Greenway moves to top line; Riley Stillman returns - Buffalo Hockey Beat

Jordan Greenway and the Sabres were looking to build off the win against the Minnesota Wild as he got the scoring started. It wouldn’t last long however as Adam Henrique tied the game less than a minute later. Tage Thompson regained the lead for Buffalo in the second period on the power play as he beat Ducks goaltender John Gibson with a shot that barely found its way into the net.

A couple of minutes later, Anaheim tied it up once again thanks to Frank Vatrano. The Ducks took the lead thanks to Vatrano once again, but Zach Benson brought the score back to even as he tipped a shot from Henri Jokiharju. Those pesky Ducks didn’t go away however as Troy Terry had Anaheim leading 4-3 heading into the third.

The game saw no more scoring as the Sabres would lose to Anaheim, resulting in the Ducks sweeping Buffalo this season. Once again, this Sabres team could not beat a team they should be able to beat and couldn’t win consecutive games. Despite outshooting the Ducks 37-15, Buffalo lost the game. I’m not going to blame Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, but I’m sure he’s not happy with his performance after he let two goals in he would probably like to have back.

Credit has to be given to Gibson for the Ducks as he performed well to give Anaheim the victory. Buffalo will be on the road for the next two games and they will start the mini trip in Montreal to take on the Canadiens
