Ben Johnson, the coordinator, has the Detroit Lions’ offense ranked among the best in the league.

The offense has produced at a high level under the leadership of a dependable, seasoned passer in Jared Goff. There is a strong group of offensive linemen and playmakers surrounding the quarterback.

Wide receiver is one of the spots where Detroit must make judgments. Josh Reynolds, a key component of the 2023 passing offense, is currently a free agent. Donovan Peoples-Jones

The Lions may thus be considering using free agency to add a pass-catcher. When free agency opens in March, Detroit should focus on these three wide outs.

Michael Evans

Evans is the one to watch if Detroit wants to make a big statement. Throughout his career, the Texas A&M graduate has been outstanding, recording ten consecutive seasons of 1,000 yards or more.

He fits the Lions offense as an outside vertical threat, which would perfectly compliment All-Pro slot receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown. Evans’ production speaks for itself, as he’s able to use his size to overwhelm opposing corners down the field.

Evans’ talks with the Buccaneers regarding a new contract have not produced the desired results. As a result, he could certainly hit the free agency market.

However, the current projected contract for him lands around $23 million annually, which would be a steep price for the Lions to pay.

A potentially more attainable option for the Lions could be Gabe Davis, who has developed into a nice weapon for the Bills’ offense. While not having the production of Evans, Davis is an intriguing player who is also huge threat going downfield.

Throughout his career, he has averaged 16.7 yards per reception and has scored six touchdowns or more in each of his four NFL seasons. He has given some of his best efforts in the postseason, like as in the 2021 postseason when he scored four touchdowns against Kansas City.

Davis does struggle with consistency at times. In 2023, he had five games with over 80 receiving yards and three games with 100 yards, but he also had five games without a reception.

He will need to grow in this area because his inability to separate has contributed to that. Nevertheless, at only 25 years old when the season begins, he presents an intriguing deep threat possibility.

Davis is a good fit at a lower cost if the Lions are unwilling to pursue the more expensive, high-priced players.

Nick Ikhine Westbrook

Although Westbrook-Ikhine doesn’t have very impressive numbers or output, he does fit a needed role for the Lions. As a powerful wide receiver who isn’t afraid to block, he can act as Goff’s safety net.

he Indiana product has experience on special teams as well, which has been a difference-making quality for the Lions’ depth receivers since Dan Campbell took over as head coach.

Westbrook-Ikhine has 94 catches over four seasons and is expected to command a contract of around $2.5 million for one year. This would be a solid bargain for the Lions who could utilize him in a depth role and on special teams.
