The 38-year-old Gomez spent 13 years in the big leagues with the New York Mets, Brewers, Houston Astros, Texas Rangers, and Tampa Bay Rays. At his best, he was one of the most exciting players in all of baseball. Gomez made the All-Star team in both 2013 and 2014. He hit 24 homers in the 2013 season and then hit 23 in 2014.

While he had excellent power, he was also known for his electric speed. He stole more than 30 bases in four different seasons, including 40 in 2013. He won a Gold Glove Award in 2013 and received MVP votes in both 2013 and 2014, as well.

Working with the Players’ Association is certainly an important role, as players are always looking for support and advocacy

In the offseason of 2021–2022, Major League Baseball locked out its players following several decades of very peaceful labor relations. After much negotiation, a new collective bargaining agreement was reached that included a number of noteworthy modifications, such as raising the salary of younger players, raising the luxury tax significantly, reducing the manipulation of service time, and more.

Beyond that, the MLBPA also began representing minor league players and eventually worked out a new CBA between those players and the league.
