Most Recent Milwaukee Brewers Acquisition Talks About Role Into 2024

Tigers acquire veteran outfielder Mark Canha from Brewers in exchange for minor league pitcher | AP News

Last week, the Milwaukee Brewers acquired pitcher DL Hall and infield prospect Joey Ortiz from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for former Cy Young winner Corbin Burnes.

Hall has served nearly exclusively as a reliever during his time in the big leagues but he told “Foul Territory” on Monday that the Brewers want him to be a starter.

The following comes from MLBTradeRumors but links to the podcast where the comments were made:

When they called me, they asked me how my training had been going, what I was preparing for. Luckily, I was preparing to be a starter. They want me to be a starter,” Hall said in an appearance on Foul Territory yesterday afternoon (YouTube link).

Hall is a 25-year-old Georgia native who made his major league debut in 2022 with the Orioles. He’s 4-1 lifetime with a 4.36 ERA. He’s pitched in 29 career games, 28 of which came as a reliever.

Given that the Brewers have gotten rid of Burnes, Brandon Woodruff and Adrian Houser this offseason, there would seem to be opportunity for Hall to make inroads in the rotation.

Milwaukee currently has Hall, Aaron Ashby, JB Bukauskas, Janson Junk, Trevor Megill, Wade Miley, Freddy Peralta, Colin Rea and Joe Ross as starter options on the 40-man roster. Peralta and Miley are definites, and Rea and Megill have starting experience in Milwaukee, but those final three official spots would seem to be up for grabs

Milwaukee won the National League Central a year ago but was eliminated from the playoffs in the NLDS.
