Breaking: Brian Cashman, general manager of the Yankees, needs to wake up and turn the franchise around…….

After a rival’s move, host argues Yankees general manager Brian Cashman needs to wake up and salvage the team.

For some, the Orioles acquiring ace Corbin

Burnes is a poor reflection of the Yankees’ offseason. Sure, general manager Brian Cashman landed Juan Soto and Trent Grisham from the Padres, Alex Verdugo from the Red Sox, and signed free-agent pitcher Marcus Stroman, whom he previously had a beef with, for a bargain. It doesn’t take away from the fact that all the Orioles had to give up was DL Hall, Baseball America’s No. 93 prospect in 2024, and Joey Ortiz.

New York Yankees fans infuriated with owner's intention to retain general manager Brian Cashman for 2023 seasonOn Friday, WFAN’s Brandon Tierney urged Cashman to wake up as Baltimore, the 2023 AL East winners, added Burnes, a Cy Young Award winner, to their pitching staff. “Cashman is evidently still in hibernation in the cave with the rest of the bears,” Tierney said, via Audacy. “It’s OK to come out of your slumber while a team in your division just got somebody that you can really use.

I was pissed… I’m not saying they gave up scrubs, but, man, Cashman missed this one. … Are you telling me there wasn’t some deal the Yankees couldn’t make to top this deal?”

On Friday, Baseball America wrote that criticism of the Yankees minor league talent is a “tad overblown.”

Maybe Tierney thought the Yankees could compete with what the Orioles had to offer. Six prospects from New York are listed in Baseball America’s Top 100: shortstop Roderick Arias (68), catcher Austin Wells (71), right-hander Chase Hampton (72), and outfielders Jasson Dominguez (16), Spencer Jones (46), and Everson Pereira (67). Could it be that the Yankees, like Baltimore with Hall, parted ways with one or more of them?

The Yankees need to add more pitching depth after losing Wandy Peralta and Keynan Middleton to free agency, trading four pitchers (Drew Thorpe, Jhony Brito, Michael King, and Randy Vásquez) and Kyle Higashioka in the Soto trade, and acquiring two more pitchers (Rich Fitts, Nicholas Judice, and Greg Weissert) in exchange for Verdugo.

That’s no excuse for Tierney, who fears the Orioles, under new ownership, will be a force in the division for the foreseeable future.

“I still think (the Yankees) will be very, very good. But understand what’s happened in two days here,” Tierney said. “The Orioles got sold from a guy who never spent a penny… they now have ownership that is possessed to win. Then they make this monstrous trade.”

Former New York Yankees star linked to Pittsburgh Pirates in free agency

The 31-year-old Sanchez played 72 games for the Padres last year after a three-game stint with the New York Mets. He’s hit for low averages for the last several years and that continued in 2023 as he hit .218, but he remained a power source, popping 19 home runs.

Former New York Yankees Stud Appears Destined For Free Agency After Time with Pittsburgh Pirates - Fastball

Sanchez is a nine-year veteran who has played for the New York Yankees, Minnesota Twins, Mets and Padres. He came up with the Yankees and was a two-time All-Star in New York. Along with Aaron Judge and Luis Severino, he was part of the “Baby Bombers,” that were supposed to bring sustained greatness to the franchise. He’s a career .225 hitter with 173 home runs. As for the Pirates, they have stated that their goal is to remain competitive all season long. Pittsburgh started out hot in 2023 and was even in first place for most of the season’s first two months, but they petered off terribly from June-on and finish in fourth in the National League Central.

Thus far this offseason, Pittsburgh has added veteran starters Marco Gonzales and Martin Perez in an effort to fortify their rotation. They also have Oneil Cruz coming back from an injury that cost him nearly all of 2023, so perhaps the goal of contending is realistic after all.
