Raiders Rumors: NFL Legend Richard Seymour Has Been ‘Valuable’ for HC, GM Searches

Hall of Fame defensive end Richard Seymour has been out of the NFL for more than a decade, but he’s still making an impact on the league.

Per Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, Seymour has been a been a crucial member of the Las Vegas Raiders’ search for a new head coach and general manager. According to Breer, he’s on the search committee to find a replacement for Josh McDaniels, who was fired in November along with general manager David Ziegler:

“One, he’s on owner Mark Davis’s search committee for the team’s next head coach, alongside team president Sandra Douglass Morgan; SVP of football administration Tom Delaney; board of directors member Larry Delsen; and advisor and former NFL exec Ken Herock. Seymour’s voice, I’m told, has been a valuable one for the group, which still has a ways to go with Saturday’s interview of interim GM Champ Kelly wrapping up the first round of GM interviews and the coach search ongoing.”
Seymour—originally a member of the New England Patriots dynasty from 2001 to 2008—closed out his career with the Raiders, who were then still located in Oakland, from 2009 to 2012. While he might be years removed from his playing career, it’s clear his voice still has some influence.

The Raiders’ coaching search has gotten underway. According to a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Las Vegas plans to interview former Minnesota Vikings coach and former Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier on Tuesday.

As the Raiders get into the heat of what is sure to be an intense search, Seymour will look to help his former franchise find its next leaders.
