Barcelona close to sign Tottenham top star

Tottenham midfielder’s agent is in startling talks with Barcelona over a January deal, which might put Postecoglou in a panic.

An agent for a Tottenham midfielder is said to have met with Barcelona about a January transfer window deal that may leave Ange Postecoglou severely short in his engine room next month.

Spurs are set to make at least three signings in January, including a new center-back, midfielder, and central striker, according to Postecoglou.

According to reports on Wednesday, the club has spoken with Nice about completing a deal for their highly-rated central defender Jean-Claire Todibo, who has been on Manchester United’s radar for some time.

In terms of bringing in another striker, it appears that Feyenoord’s prolific marksman Santiago Gimenez is Ange Postecoglou’s top priority to fill the vacuum created by Harry Kane’s departure.

However, midfield remains a quandary for Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, who adores the burgeoning relationship of Yves Bissouma and Paper Sarr but will be absent the duo for much of January and possibly early February as they prepare for the African Cup of Nations.

With Rodrigo Bentancur still out injured and Giovani Lo Celso out against Nottingham Forest due to a personal matter, Postecoglou may have to rely more on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp as the season progresses.

Neither player matches the style or tempo of football that Postecoglou prefers, and adding another midfielder risks stepping on the toes of the burgeoning Bissouma-Sarr axis.

If the recent claims about Hojbjerg are to be true, Postecoglou may be forced to enter the market.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the agency for the Denmark international has spoken with Barcelona president Joan Laporta in preparation for a January move to the Camp Nou.

Under Postecoglou, Hojbjerg has gone from being a first-team regular under Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo, and Antonio Conte to a bench warmer.

Given the number of injuries Tottenham now possesses, as well as self-inflicted suspensions, the Dane has proven to be a valuable asset to the Australian.

Bissouma will be suspended for the next four games after receiving his second red card of the season against Forest.
