Done Deal: Ipswich Town completes signing of 23-year-old Center-back as he explains decision to leave Hull City.

Jacob Greaves says he leaped at the opportunity to join Premier League newcomers Ipswich Town as soon as the club’s interest in the 23-year-old defender became known.

Greaves leaves Hull City after being with the club since the age of eight, following a stellar season at the MKM Stadium that saw him named to the Championship’s Team of the Season, as the Tigers narrowly missed out on a top six spot while Town secured successive promotions under Kieran McKenna.

The former academy graduate had expressed his desire to perform in the Premier League, a wish that was granted by owner Acun Ilicali.

City is expected to get more than the previously reported £15 million plus £3 million in add-ons, with the agreement possibly worth more than £20 million throughout Greaves’ five-year contract in Suffolk.

Greaves’ move to Portman Road was initially linked to a double deal with Tigers teammate Jaden Philogene, but City have since accepted terms on Philogene’s return to Aston Villa, freeing up Greaves’ move to the top flight.

“I’m absolutely delighted, it’s a massive club,” City’s former number four told Town TV. “I suppose as soon as I heard there was some interest, I spoke with the folks around me, and they were all really eager to get this relocation completed. I’m relieved that it’s finally finished.

“I’ve spoken with Kieran [McKenna] several times during the last month. Every conversation I’ve had with him has been great, and it’s gotten me really enthused about the upcoming endeavor. Talking about tactics, life, everything, it’s been spot on for me. That was a major role in my decision to come here.”
